Test DVB-T in Wellington up

Rumor has it that the DVB-T signal is testing in Wellington:
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=34&TopicId=17036
I don't have a terrestrial tuner yet, but a friend of mine
confirms audio but cant get video going yet.

Managed to get hold of a tvone h264 stream. Specs don't match their
announcements as it is 1080i25 rather than 720p50 so I have feeling they
are just trialling a lot of different encoding rates.

I do have a problem playing the stream as my builds of mplayer and vlc
don't like it due to PAFF interlacing. Currently using MPlayer 1.0RC2.

Anyone on list had any better luck making a PAFF compliant build of mplayer?

No but I did start a thread on mplayer-users mailing list a week or do back.

http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-users/2007-October/069615.html

The short answer was svn. (I was decoding a sample from a UK station).

Ok using todays SVN I can get a valid frame and then MPlayer crashes.
Might upload the file for the ffmpeg/mplayer devs to take a look at.

yes, and it is kinda decoding a test BBC stream that I have. if
someone wants to make available a NZ stream, i am happy to test that.

I finally got my sabayon (a type of gentoo derivative) to compile a
mplayer-svn today. The stream i was decoding (from BBC) is 1920x1080
and my computer doesn't really have the guts to decode it, BUT mplayer
has now got rid of the PAFF interlacing errors which precluded any
decoding at all.

So now I get a very jerky looking playback, with the right approx 1/4
of the picture in pink, and after a while I get;

h264 @ 0x8808430]Interlaced pictures + spatial direct mode is not implemented

for many lines, although decoding and display continues (such as it is).

Oh and no sound comes out, complains that there is no audio, although
ffmpeg (not svn) thinks there is.

As I say, if someone wants to send me a NZ test file I will test it
with mplayer svn.

I'm uploading 3 clips (one of each of the streams) to my site
now. They should all be up in about 25 minutes. Be warned that
latest cvs/svn builds of mplayer, xine, and ffmpeg cannot handle them
yet. They are however decoded fine by both PowerDVD & CoreAVC under
Windows so I believe my captures were fine.

It appears my mailserver is disliked by the list server, oh well. Second try.

I'm uploading 3 clips (one of each of the streams) to my site now.
The last one should be finishing its upload in a few minutes. Be
warned that latest cvs/svn builds of mplayer, xine, and ffmpeg cannot

Tim - Many Thanks..

I was able to get a frame to decode using MPlayer straight off SVN as it
has the required PAFF support.

I'll try and write up my tests and dump some images out later today.

Are any of the streams running 720p at this stage as thats what TVNZ are
planning on going live with.

VLC (atleast on osx) seems to hate it.
I get a black screen the right size but it just stays black (and no audio).
I'll have another play later.

Here are some screen shots taken with MPlayer dev-SVN-r25017-4.1.3 built a
couple of days ago.

I get a frame and then mplayer crashes

http://www.mythtv.co.nz/mythtv/images/h264/clip1-sd.png
http://www.mythtv.co.nz/mythtv/images/h264/clip2-SD.png
http://www.mythtv.co.nz/mythtv/images/h264/hidef-HD.png

I also have an additional HD TVNZ stream.

http://www.mythtv.co.nz/mythtv/images/h264/tvone-HD.png

Now the 1080i streams are a little odd as they are native 1:1 1920x1080i
whilst in Europe they tend to transmit 16:9 flagged 1440x1080i.

Also I've heard that at the moment the test streams are actually being
generated on a PC rather than using the production encoders.
