Mythmusic - shuffle by album?

Hi folks

Thanks again for all the help - I now have 0.8 running off one boot volume
and CVS running from another. Most satisfactory.

Is there any interest in adding a Shuffle mode to mythmusic that shuffles
*by album*?

E.g. At the last song in an album, a random choice is made of all the albums
in the playlist, and the next track is the first off that album. Then track
2, 3, 4, ... N and then another random selection.

I suspect this isn't the simplest thing to code (?) but for those of us with
eclectic musical tastes, this avoids Marilyn Manson cutting in on Vivaldi,
which is a bit disconcerting to say the least!

Hope someone with better C++ than me is interested in scratching this
itch...

Cheers
Mike

I believe the goal with the new playlist model was to allow playlists
of playlists. Therefore, one should be able to easily implement album
shuffling as a more general playlist shuffling feature. This would
differ from normal shuffling by retaining a sense of top-level (or
bottom-level?) hierarchy. After implementing this feature, shuffling
albums is as simple as creating playlists of all albums and adding
them to a super-playlist.

Seems clunky to actually have to *create* the playlist containing each album
though. Is there a UI way of being able to treat each album as a playlist
or a collection of tracks...?

Hmmm... one thing I've been thinking about recently is the ability of
mythmusic to somehow read, import, export, or otherwise deal with standard
.m3u files for playlists. This would have a number of benefits:

- Ability to maintain a common set of playlists for use with mythmusic &
other media players
- Easy & powerful ways to create/manage playlists (offline) already exist

I have my music collection on a 30GB external USB/Firewire drive that I take
with me to work, then plug into my Myth box when I get home. It would be
really nice if I could just maintain a set of .m3u files that worked in both
locations.

In the short term, I might just come up with a shell/MySQL script that would
read the .m3u files and create the corresponding playlists in the database,
but maybe someone can come up with a more elegant solution...

I'm guessing that you want to hook into the quick scan for new songs at
startup, get any playlists then and create the myth objects...
