MythWeather - A map of the world with weather icons for specified locations

Hello all,

I want to suggest a new feature for MythWeather and since I do not know the
right place to do that, I'm writing this mail.

The idea is to generate a map of the world and display weather icons for user
defined locations. For example I like a map where the current weather of some
towns in germany, usa and russia are displayed. With the current big sized
TV's, the map should be big enough to be legibly.

What do you think of that idea? Is it a difficult task or much work to realize?

I'm appreciate for any comments!

Regards,

Joachim Langenbach

Good Evening again,

I have programed an example application in plain Qt (see screenshot
http://www.tiikoni.com/tis/view/?id=2c54126). My problem now is the conversion
to MythUI, since I did not find a QGraphicsView element in MythUI. So is there
such an element and if not, how can I use it nevertheless?

Kind regards,

fantastic news that you are looking at this.
just one point; maybe you'd consider using a less western biased may such
as a peter's projection (which shows relative land masses accurately)
rather than the mercator projection which shows western
countries ridiculously out of scale
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercator_projection

perhaps a equirectangular projection would be best for a 16:9 ratio display

Good hints. I'll check whether QGeoMap can switch between projections.

Any hints how to convert it into MythUI?

Good afternoon,

equirectangular projection can be used now. I've implemented an new
QGeoServiceProvider to use NASAs blue marble images as a map. This images are
satellite images in equirectangular projection.
http://www.tiikoni.com/tis/view/?id=f39e98f shows the application with a blue
marble day image (night can also be used).

The next step is the integration into mythweather.

Hello all,

I've integrated the world weather map into mythweather. For details and the
related patch, have a look at http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/10286.
