The *buntu repositories should include a debug package for the MythTV packages, though getting it may involve adding new repos or similar. You'll need to find and install the debug package. Unfortunately, no *buntu user has taken the time to fill out details at http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Debugging#Debugging_with_Ubuntu_packages so it will likely involve interpreting the information at the link I gave in that section and applying the information to MythTV. Once you do that, please (for the next *buntu user to come this way) fill in the details of how to install the debug packages for MythTV.
