Robert, I typically use --enable-debug. Isn't that the preferred method
or are the two equiv?

--enable-debug is not a valid MythTV configure script option (see
./configure --help ).

It only fails to error because it was a valid option in ffmpeg's
configure script.

Very odd, I am certain I used it (I just verified my config.log) and it
produced symbols. I ran mythbackend under gdb to get a backtrack. I'll
be sure to use the compile-type in the future.
