Slow lock Multiproto_plus

Hi everyone,

I finally got the MythTV working with the latest multiproto drivers (yay!)
Unfortunately things are mighty slow:

In VDR I get an instant lock, channel-hopping is very smooth. On MythTV,
however, it takes a while to lock (I can see the entire L-A-M(-C)
process) and it doesn't always work.
I haven't found anyone else having these problems with my tuner
(TechnoTrend S2-3200)

Hi Jelle,

I've been busy this weekend with mythtv and the latest multiproto_plus
drivers.
I have the sd channels running with the S2-3200 card. Locking the channels
is also very slow.
On some transponders I am unable to scan for channels.
(Example tv-vlaanderen - 19,2° - 12343 - 22000 - 5/6 - H - discovery
channel)
Are you able to scan this transponder ?

On my Hauppauge nexus card with the same lnb and dish I can scan the
transponder.

I go the MythTV 0.21 working with "mantis" - driver like multiproto, for
VP-1041 / SkyStar HD2. Channel-hopping was very slow too. I added modulation
settings to ioctl "DVBFE_SET_PARAMS" (to dvbfe_params) and now it's
fastest and always work.

I have solved my locking problems by adding 4000kHz in the source code
(I remember its in dvbchannel.cpp).
But I would be delighted to get a real fix for these issue. It may be
something to resolve in the dvb driver though.

I'll look foreward to that.
I did manage to get dvb-s2 working with mythtv on a skystar hd2.
Dbv-s did not work stable so I hope your patch will work better.
Can you please tell me wich mantis or multiproto version and mythtv version
you are using?

i don't have this problem on my hvr4000 lite (i get lock very fast on all
channels). so i think that is a driver (stb0899) issue, not a mythtv issue. i
had the same problem with a stb0899 based card. but the card died and i
replaced it with a much better one.

I using latest mantis driver, 0b04be0c088a and MythTV svn 17178 on Ubuntu
8.04 amd64.

I added 4000khz in the channel scanner (changing dvbchannel is not needed)
and I was able to scan for channels.
But the lock wasn't possible. I added 4500khz and I was able to lock the
channels.

Glad I could help, this issue just bugged me for a while. I think you
should post to the dvb list to add to our voices so this can be fixed
at some point.
So you changed the frequencies directly in the DB, right?
Are you able to tune to S2 channels?

Your point is noted. An offset of 5Mhz exists in the Carrier Recovery
Loop. Will need to fix this, will take some time to fix this.

No I didn't change the frequency in the db, I used the channel scanner.
The weird thing is, I used the same multiproto_plus driver with VDR. With
VDR I didn't change the frequency.

I am not able to tune to S2 channels. I am looking at the patch from Jacek.
But I have a newer revision than him and a TechnoTend S2-3200 card. The
patch is not working for the moment.

Ok, here are my first test results.
patches did apply without any error's.

however, when I try to compyle mythtv I get the following error:
dvbchannel.cpp:837: error: â€˜FE_SET_FRONTEND2â€™ was not declared in this scope

The line number is a little bit different from your setup because I added some
debug messages.
I did copy the frontend.h and the version.h from the mantis installation
to /usr/include/linux/dvb

Any suggestions on this one?

My mistake, I clean code ... I do a new patch, but but now You should
change FE_SET_FRONTEND2 to FE_SET_FRONTEND.
I temporary removed support for FE_SET_FRONTEND2, and FE_SET_FRONTEND2
should not be there.

okey no problem.
I changed FE_SET_FRONTEND2 to FE_SET_FRONTEND.
Mythtv compiles well now.
However when I start the backend I see the following message:
DVBChan(7:0) Error: Tuner not support DVB-S/DVB-S2.

Any ideas on this one?

Hi all,

svn'd version 17440, patch gives attached .rej file.
Applied .rej by hand, which I think went correct.
Compiling gives attached compile.err
What am I doing wrong ?

Tried yesterday with version 17406 and got more ore less same problem.

using patch step-by-step:
copy patch to directory, where is mythttv dir
cd mythtv
patch -p0 < ../mythtv_multiproto.2.patch

dtvconfparserhelpers.h is not patched, FEC_1_4 declaration is there.

You have checked out the on trunk. The patch is for branch fixes-0-21.
You can change QDeepCopy to Q3DeepCopy in the patch to have it work with the
trunk.

By the way, did add 4500khz to all the channels or just a few?
