New Theme - Metallurgy

I've released a preview/beta of my new 16:9 theme. It requires an up to date
copy of SVN and includes the first hi-res OSD theme for mythtv.

It's should be considered unfinished and in particular there are a number of
missing or repeat icons in the menus which will be fixed in the final
version. The MythMovies, MythZoneminder and MythArchive plugins are not
themed, the latter because it's so huge (bigger than the mythfrontend theme).

It includes support for the recently added MythMusic mini-player.

http://miffteevee.co.uk/themes/metallurgy.html

Since the theme is unfinished, I'd appreciate it if this announcement ISN'T
posted on mythtv-users or outside this mailing list in a big way.

If you think you've seen a bug or problem then please let me know, remembering
what I said above about missing images and unthemed plugins.

N.B. Some people may have tried/tested earlier alpha state versions that I
announced on IRC, if you are using one of these, I recommend that you
upgrade.

That looks really sweet. I actually can't use it (since I'm not
currently running SVN) but I look forward to using it at some point.
I also appreciate the work your put into MythTV, so I gave a small
donation for now until I can give it a spin.

Thanks!

Stuart - just wanted to say thanks for working on a new theme. Often
times the UI/GUI is usually lower on the list of priorities in myth,
so I'm always happy to see when someone puts a lot of effort into
these spaces.

Thanks!

Re: New Theme - Metallurgy [In reply to]

This is a great theme, especially the OSD. Thanks Stuart!

What I wanted to ask here is if you or anybody else using the metallurgy OSD
theme noticed a problem where closed captions (ATSC and analog VBI, at least)
become much tinier than when using one of the older OSDs? I posted a very
simple patch that fixes it for me to trac:
http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/4297
but since no one else has commented on this problem, I was starting to wonder
if it was just some misconfiguration of my fonts or something.

Yes, I noticed it too. Thanks for the patch. I will try it with the next
recompile in a couple of days.

Awesome theme, I've been using it for about a week with no issues to report.

Thanks!
Tom

I am running MythTV on my desktop PC, where it is running in a 1024x576
window. Without your patch the fonts are tiny, with the patch they are back
to normal size.

Thanks!

I just wanted to say this is my new favorite theme. Thank you!

I have had to make a few tweaks to it, but pretty much they are just
"personal preference" type of things, so I assume you don't care to
see a patch.

Thanks.

Probably not, I had to make some potentially unpopular decisions with regards
to ditching some information from pages. I'd be interested in alignment fixes
and the like, but anything of that nature should probably wait until I've
released a non-beta version, I've a few fixes, icons and plugins to complete
and I'll make an effort to get those done this coming week.

Once I've finished the 0.21 version I'll start work on converting the theme to
mythui for trunk. The 0.21 release will probably be unmaintained once that
final release is made, I don't intend to look after two completely different
versions of the same theme, I've already got enough work.

just installed it on the frontend in my bedroom.
pretty good.
doesn't have the problem that i have with a lot of themes (squished OSD
text in 16:9 mode), so that is a plus from my perspective.

could i suggest that the "colour packs" be relative to the theme "top".
poor wording, i know. to install you have to unpack the main tar file
and then the colour pack; then move it on top of the original, as the
top level directory is red/ or purple/ rather than metallurgy/

i know this is a real nit-pick

it is one of the few themes that i have seen that has no (or none to my
eyes so far) alignment errors.

keep up the good work

Heh, the music repeat/shuffle icons look familiar :) I like them, I also
like this theme.

Drawn from scratch, but inspired by your original patch. :)

Happy to see the concept being reused, makes mythmusic seem more like a
music player when it uses familiar concepts like those icons.

I should brush up that patch again...
