Are you sure the set-top box (STB/decoder) is actually outputting
video? I got a /lot/ of recordings of black pictures with no audio when
my STB was turned off.

If that's not the case, then it's almost definitely an issue with your
Input Connections configuration. I'd recommend:

If you don't have any channels available on the S-Video input, you
shouldn't have any video source connected to that input (in input
connections). Again,
