Playback picture control problem

Sorry to bother the dev list with this but no joy on the user list.
Hi all,
First my vital statistics: running 0.21 build 15578 under ubuntu with
nvidia6xxx series. Standard decoder. Opengl renderer.
I've turned on the playback picture controls setting but during playback if
I press the "F" key I get a volume control instead of playback picture
controls. Looking in the key mapping setup menu the F key appears to be
mapped properly. Any ideas on how to get playback picture controls working
properly would be most appreciated.
