MePo-wide. A New Mythtv Theme now available for downlaod.

It's still work in progress, but after struggling with it for over two
months, I wanted to share it with you.
It was tested on trunk, but 0.20 should work as well. All core
components should work + mythmusic. Rest should be done within a month
or so.
You can get it from http://home.comcast.net/~zdzisekg/

PLEASE READ THE "ABOUT" AND "README" PAGES on WEBSITE.

Hope you guys enjoy it.

Jesse.

Re: MePo-wide. A New Mythtv Theme now available for downlaod. [In reply to]

First new theme in a while I can honestly say I quite like the look of
- apart from my own collection of course (which has now grown to no
less than 6 themes!) ;-)

I especially like the way you've dealt with the bottom of the screen -
the recordings info section has certainly given me food for
thought.... and actually making the status icons is a stroke of genius
IMHO - no more having to bring up the symbols key to find out the
meaning of sometimes cryptic icons. An obvious alternative nobody
else has yet implemented - nice!

If I had to make any criticism at all it'd be about the small number
of button items in the menus - but I can see why you've done that - to
keep the screen styling consistent.

Well done, and welcome to the MythTV themers club.

A great looking theme. Any chance for a non-wide version? Seems all
the newest MythTV themes are -wide and leave us normal TV users in the
dark :)

Very nice! I particularly like that you've done something new with mythmusic -
it's neglected in most themes.

Just a FYI I couldn't wait to get home to see the animation (!) so I
pulled the pngs into a gif

http://www.mythtvtalk.com/juski/tv00.gif

Little animated dudes have come to MythTV. I feel quite faint.

Great work! Its nice to see so many creative and clean themes lately.
I love the little animated mascot (thanks Justin for the GIF as I'm at
work) as well.

Let us know when you have MythVideo themed, as I use it much more than
MythMusic.

Time to ssh into my mythfrontend to install this =)

I agree. I would love to see this as a 4:3 theme as well. Any chance of
this happening, Zdzislaw?

Count me as another vote for a 4:3 version. I love what I've seen of this
theme from the screenshots, but it'll need at least MythVideo (and
preferably MythDVD) included before I could actually install and use it
(WAF, you know). Excellent work!!

Very nice theme, will give it a go at the weekend. Have been looking
out for a 'smart' style theme for myth for a while, it is the one
place I believe Myth lacks is a very good professional feel theme. I
also put in a vote for mythVideo, mythDVD and also a mythweather vote.

Good work again.

Paul

P.S. Loving the wide screen

You might want to check out blootube-wide. Very professional looking.

Can see am going to accidently start some arguments here sorry!!
Didn't mean to disrespect any of the other themes. Am a fan of the
project grayhem theme but my wife wasnt as keen, said it was too
'blokie'. I agree the blootube is very good, however too many curves
for my liking. doesnt fit in with all the sharp angles in my flat am
afraid. This one fits the bill better for me. I also like the move
away from what I think of as the 'microsoft' blue, prob due to all the
screenshots of media center that I have seen let alone having been
forced to use XP.

My thanks to all the theme designers out there though please keep
doing good work, everybody likes different things out of their themes
so if you dont agree with my thoughts just ignore them!

There will be no animated theme forthcoming from this contributor in
the immediate future. I'm just not a fan of animated GUIs - they're
best left to scifi shows IMHO (along with the whooshy sfx & beeps
etc). Maybe when the remote control is done away with & we have to
wave our arms around to control stuff, I'll get back to you....

And just for the record, I'm allowed to change my mind ;-)

Oh and w.r.t. folks' choice of themes... there's no accounting for
taste. I couldn't really give a rat's chuff if nobody else uses
blootube. I like it at the moment, but then ProjectGrayhem once held
that place too.

What's really important is that people care enough about this PVR app
to contribute. Long may the work continue!

After playing the Wii for a little while, I keep waving my MythTV
remote at the screen and nothing happens. Is there a fix for this?

Myth has mouse support and I believe there is a bluetooth driver for
the Wii-mote...

Yea... i already have my "Me-Po-Bloo" theme. I liked the Me-Po character so
much, i replaced all the blootube watermarks with the Me-Po ones, Also changed
the titles and mythtv logo. Thanks to both theme makers for all their
work... i now have my "Me-Po-Bloo"

Amen! I have been using MythTV for 18 months and I've never known what any
of those symbols meant and I was too afraid to ask. :-)

The theme looks AWESOME. Looking at the screens I'm seeing information I
didn't even realize was there until your theme highlighted it. If you
produce a 4:3 version I'll be all over it. Excellent work.

Re: MePo-wide. A New Mythtv Theme now available for downlaod. [In reply to]

Not sure where to start... but I'll try to answer your questions and
then give my opinion on a thing or two.

4:3 version - well, as I've said I spent 2 months, almost every spare
moment I had creating the theme and it will be at least another before
it's complete. So, until then there will be nothing in that direction
for sure. After that, who knows, but given I don't even have a 4:3
display at home it gives me little incentive to create one. On a
technical side of things, now that I have a better idea of what can be
done with a mythtv theme, I think it would be hard to lay out things in
a 4:3 format using this layout. I think your best shot would be to try
to create it yourself. All the materials I had available are in the
tarball, including some photoshop files. Others can be obtained from the
links in the ABOUT/CREDIT sections of my website.

That said, I sent the message to let you all know of new theme, hoping
you'll test it, provide some feedback, find bugs, make suggestions if
there is a bettter way of doing things with what I have so far. Not to
start a contest which theme is better. It would be polite to focus on
issues related to this theme rather then others. The themes is what it
is, it's not even finished, and some already want to redesign it
completley. To top it of, most did not seem to even bother to install it.

Let me make this clear, the basic concept is what you see on the
screenshots and is NOT going to change. Hope you like it, but if you
don't that's ok too. One can always take my work and do with it what
ever they wish. I have used different themes in a past, some I liked
more then others, but I don't criticize the work and now that I've had a
chance to find out myself how much work goes into it, I'm even less
inclined to do so.

Let's stop right here and focus on what's important. Now you have
another theme. If you like it, use it. If you find bugs, report it. If
you have suggestions on how to make it better, I'm listenning.
If you don't like the concept of this theme completely, just use another
and ignore this one.
For anything else in between, feel free to do the work yourself. Believe
me, it's very rewarding.

Jesse

What would you consider bugs and how would you prefer they be
reported? For instance, the menu on the Image Gallery disappears
immediately after loading. Is that a bug or "just haven't gotten to
it yet" thing?

Thanks,

Brad
