It turns out there's a subtle difference in behavior. When enabled, the
setting:
Change channels immediately without select[[BR]]
When a complete channel number is entered MythTV will switch to that
channel immediately without requiring you to hit the select button.
will result in MythTV changing the channel /immediately/ upon pressing the
final digit in a numeric value that uniquely matches a valid channel
number while watching Live TV. With the setting disabled, MythTV will
change the channel after the OSD timeout--as most other DVRs, TVs, etc.
tend to do. Note, also, users with the setting disabled may hit SELECT to
change the channel immediately.
I will admit that the setting leads to confusion (as it confused me for a
couple of days, too). Upcoming changes will remove the setting and
attempt to provide the best behavior for all users without the confusion.
