Ticket #7663: Unable to lock signal via uncommitted diseqc

#7663: Unable to lock signal via uncommitted diseqc
-----------------------------------------+----------------------------------
Reporter: Mike Nix <mnix@…> | Owner: janne
Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: minor | Milestone: unknown
Component: MythTV - DVB | Version: head
Severity: medium | Mlocked: 0

I have the following setup:
mythtv -> TT-Connect S2-3650 CI -> 8x1 uncommitted diseqc -> LNBs

I was using a 2x1 "super mini" diseqc which worked fine under MythTV
configured as either a mini diseqc, or a committed diseqc with 2 ports.

With the new diseqc, scan-s2 works fine - it selects the correct LNB,
tunes and finds the correct channels on the satellite.
I patched szap-s2 for uncommitted diseqcs and that also locks the signal
for each satellite ok.

I configured MythTV for an uncommitted diseqc with 8 ports, but it does
not seem to change the switch - I can get a lock on the satellite on the
first port, but not any others.
mythtv-setup -v channel, extra shows the correct diseqc command being sent
- the same one being sent by szap-s2.

(I'll attach the full log)

Comment(by Mike Nix <mnix@…>):

Further investigation shows that my S2-3650 is turning off the LNB power
for a time when sending the uncommitted diseqc command :(
It's as if the firmware thinks a diseqc 2.0 reply is coming back.

The diseqc will switch, but depending on what is plugged in to the port
selected (eg an LNB that takes a bit of power at startup) the processor in
the diseqc will run out of power and reset. If I switch to an LNB that is
getting power from somewhere else, it works.

this bug can be closed as the fault is not in MythTV (and I will go
hunting for firmware updates)

Comment(by Mike Nix <mnix@…>):

For anyone finding this later, the issue was finally resolved by swapping
the power hungry DMS Quad LNBs for better behaved Chess Edition II Quads.
