[mp2.0.4] t/hooks/authen_basic (Wstat: 0 Tests: 4 Failed: 1)

Hi,

I have been trying to install mp2.0.4. In addition to having problems
with authen_basic, I am also getting a test fail for t/hooks/authz as
well.

My perl Makefile command is as follows: perl Makefile.PL
MP_APXS=/home/Intranet/ssiweb/apache/bin/apxs

Here are the relevant contents from the log file:

What's in modperl_extra.pl? You didn't really describe what's you're
seeing, so i'm assuming that apache isn't starting up correctly, and
that that's what you're seeing in the error_log with the LogLevel set to
debug.

I'm trying to understand what you're asking for help with. Your subject
is about a build test failing, but then you included a wall of error_log
output, which doesn't really seem to be related, but does seem to
indicate that you've got mod_perl 2.0.4 installed and running.

mod_perl 2 has frequently had it's tests start failing when new versions
of httpd have come out and changed things around a bit, those tests have
frequently resided in the auth subsystem, but generally have been
problems with the test, not with mod_perl or apache. I have no idea if
that is the case in this particular situation though, i personally
haven't built 2.0.4 against 2.2.10 on any platform, never mind solaris.
Personally, i think that when this occurs, a new version of mod_perl
should be pushed out that corrects the problem (even if it doesn't
correct anything else), but I'm not on the dev team ;)

So I guess my question is, what's your question?

I think that is th general idea. As someone on httpd I wasn't aware of
any land breaking changes in 2.2.10 vs 2.2.9.

Hmm, I guess my question is what could be causing Test 4 of
t/hooks/authen_basic.t and Test 4 of t/hooks/authz.t to fail?

Do I need to make Apache-Test ModPerl-Registry prior to making mod-perl?

Ok, I found modperl_extra.pl. It's located in t/conf/modperl_extra.pl

Can you post the output of this command?

I just tried this test with 2.0.4 and 2.2.10 (default configuration)
and it passed. Might be the way your have apache configured, can you
post the output of 'httpd -l'?

You could modify t/hooks/authz.t to dump out the response code -
here's how I did it:

19 ok ! GET_OK $location, username => 'jobbob', password => 'whatever';
20 $rc = GET $location, username => 'jabbob', password => 'whatever';
21 use Data::Dumper;
22 warn("rc was " . Dumper($rc));

If you can make that modification post the results back here.

And basic auth is failing. If you don't have any 'require user'
directives in your httpd.conf, you shouldn't have anything to worry
about. Interesting test failure though, I wonder if there is a
problem with basic auth in Apache 2.2.10.

If you do need basic auth I would suggest trying apache 2.2.9 or 2.2.8.

Thanks, Fred.

So if I need basic auth, I should go back to Apache2.2.8 or 2.2.9?

And if I do not need basic auth, then what should I do?

Well you should run the tests with mod_perl also and see if they still
fail when built against those versions of mod_perl. But it could be
that basic auth is working and the test is just failing for some
reason :)

There is no substitute for setting up an actual handler and testing it
from the browser also, in case this is a solaris specific bug in the
testing suite.

May I ask about the httpd conf file for your apache2.2.10?

Here are the LoadModule lines that I believe are relevant:

LoadModule authn_file_module modules/mod_authn_file.so
LoadModule authn_dbm_module modules/mod_authn_dbm.so
LoadModule authn_anon_module modules/mod_authn_anon.so
LoadModule authn_dbd_module modules/mod_authn_dbd.so
LoadModule authn_default_module modules/mod_authn_default.so
LoadModule authz_host_module modules/mod_authz_host.so
LoadModule authz_groupfile_module modules/mod_authz_groupfile.so
LoadModule authz_user_module modules/mod_authz_user.so
LoadModule authz_dbm_module modules/mod_authz_dbm.so
LoadModule authz_owner_module modules/mod_authz_owner.so
LoadModule authnz_ldap_module modules/mod_authnz_ldap.so
LoadModule authz_default_module modules/mod_authz_default.so
LoadModule auth_basic_module modules/mod_auth_basic.so
LoadModule auth_digest_module modules/mod_auth_digest.so

-------------------------------------------------------------
And what I attempted to do to disable them:

#<Location />
#AuthBasicAuthoritative Off
#AuthDigestNcCheck Off
#AuthzDefaultAuthoritative Off
#AuthzUserAuthoritative Off
#AuthzOwnerAuthoritative Off
#AuthzDBMAuthoritative Off
#AuthzGroupFileAuthoritative Off
#</Location>

Thanks!

You probably don't need these; if you don't have a 'Require User
someusername' directive in your httpd.conf auth_basic won't be used.
You can remove these or comment them out. Apache will throw an error
on startup if there is a directive that requires one of these modules.

- httpd-2.2.6
- httpd-2.2.4

with the same conf and I got the same test failures.
