mod_perl survey

Greetings,

At the impromptu mod_perl BOF at YAPC::NA, Adam Prime had the great idea
that a mod_perl survey could help look at the current needs of mod_perl
users, similar to the Perl survey (http://perlsurvey.org).

We hacked out a 10 question survey using surveymonkey.com, the link is
here (please do _not_ submit any results yet :) :

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=bQyb2RFCBuVb0P52yhaCMg_3d_3d

The survey would seek to attain these goals:

1) Determine the current breakdown of mod_perl users in terms of what
versions, modules, and platforms mod_perl users are using.

2) Give mod_perl users a chance to provide feedback to the development
team on where they think mod_perl development should be headed.

I'm interested on what thoughts other devs have on sending this out to
the list. I would want to post the stats back to the list once we had
gathered a good sized data set. This is a small survey gathering a
limited amount of data, but that should work somewhat in our favor in
that it only takes about a minute to complete.

It could be that we only get 10 responses, it could be that we get 1,000
responses. But that data in itself is valuable.

What do you think, mod_perl devs?

I have answered all your questions.

Point 10 is really 3 questions.

You forgot to ask about the 2 perl connection handlers.

We only get 10 questions with the free survey, so I bundled three essay
questions in question #10 :) The idea of a mod_perl workshop is growing
on me more and more, just have to figure out how to make it happen.

Can you suggest additional answer items for that question?

I mean you ask about PerlResponseHandler, PerlTranslationHandler etc. You ask
about all handlers of the HTTP response cycle. But with mp2 you can implement
your own protocol independent of HTTP. The test suite uses Chatbot::Eliza to
do that.

So simply add 2 checkboxes labeled PerlPreConnectionHandler and
PerlProcessConnectionHandler to Q6.

I think in Q5 it could be interesting if there is some interest in using the
event MPM with mp.

Another 2 questions just came to mind, how about:

Where do you use mod_perl?

* only frontend
* only backend
* both
* I use a single tier setup

Do you use mod_perl in combination with other content generators in the same
Apache instance?

* mod_cgi/mod_cgid
* mod_php
...

Added - I grabbed the initial list from
http://perl.apache.org/docs/2.0/user/handlers/http.html
and those weren't on the list.

I've added event as an option - don't think anyone is using it (or can
use it) but we'll see if anyone clicks it :)

We only get 10 questions with this free survey :(

Added mod_php, mod_cgi/cgid to the application/framework list as
something used in the response phase.

At one point I used it, in my consulting business in production, but
that didn't turn out so well after about 8 months, it mysteriously
crapped out and I fell back to prefork.

Also, tests definitely fail.

Technically you used it, so we'll have at least one person checking the
event checkbox :)
