GPE-Contacts and .vcf

Using D-Bus Switchboard I have configure Gpe-contacts to be the default
handler for a .vcf file.

Whenever I try to transfer a contact from my Palm to the N800,
Gpe-contacts always fails to import the contact.

Actual steps, I transfer the contact from the Palm using Bluetooth, I am
asked where I want to save the receiving file on the N800 and leave
"open file after saving" checked.

Choose save, and I leave all at default and let it save into Documents.
(I have also tried altering the file name.)

Choose Save, the system tries to start "Gpe-contacts" but then a message
pops up stating the the file could not be imported, with a display of
the path to the file location.

I have also tried a manual import of the file using "Gpe-contacts"
"Tools" "Import VCard" funtion.
Same results.

While I am here, is there anyway to transfer a "Gpe-Contact" over
Bluetooth, or attach it to an email?

I have fixed a number of card import problems in the next release of GPE -- it
is currently in Beta but is not ready for a full release yet. If you want to
email me an example of a failing vcard (do not copy to the list please) I
will take a look and check whether it is fixed in the next version.

The only way is to export the contact and manually attach it to the email.
There is no way to send it as a bluetooth business card that I know of.

in theory there is - gpe-contacts can use the DBus interface gpe-bluetooth
offers to send a vcard over Bluetooth. (gpe-beam offers a similar interface for
IrOBEX.)
Maemo offers an interface for this purpose too, so adapting gpe-contacts should
be easy. The same applies to gpe-calendar and vcal/ical btw.

Greetings

Florian

There is a Maemo project that deals with Bluetooth called "give" that
might help you? Just a guess on my part if it would.
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/give/

Since the two of you are also listed as the team behind GPE Calendar, I
hope you would not mind a question on that application?

Would an updated version of Calendar be in the works that supports an
alarm powering on the N800 and perhaps flashing the led?
I have seen it referred to as the built-in alarm system, and without
that power up option, it is real easy to miss an appointment, a show
stopper in fact.

The Maemo application, Seqretary, has this feature, so I would figure
yours would also be able to add this very needed feature.

Thanks for the replies,
Sean

This is one of the most often requested enhancements to GPE Calendar but there
is no one working on it at the moment. The problem is that no one seems to
have the time to implement it (a couple of people have made a start but never
finished the work).

It is not that no one wants to do it, or that it is not believed to be a good
idea, just the problem of anyone having the time to implement it so far.

Graham

Is anyone working on adding timezone capability? So that I can enter (say) a flight that leaves London at 11am GMT and arrives JFK at 2pm Eastern?
