new n800 user problem connecting

hi

i've just get my N800 yesterday, and i plan to use it as an end user
for some job (taking notes on specific people using first a notes
taker then a web app run locally (i 'm a web developper mostly php
and ror).

But my first problem is that i can't connect on internet :-(

i set my macook pro as a wifi base (via sharing internet connection
through wifi-airport) )
the n800 sees the connection, connects fine but neither mail nor web
works, there is no firewall, everything is set on dhcp and no
personnal dns set.

Do you have any idea ?

thanks

Do you get an IP-address?

Can you access the Internet through another wireless router? You need to make
sure that the N800 is working under "normal" conditions.

Some troubleshooting should be helpful. ifconfig, resolv.conf. Then
try to go out. Ping, traceroute. The very problem might be on mac.
It has to pass and probably nat packets. If I remember well, the kernel
is mach, microkernel. It is different than freebsd and resembles hurd in
some instance. You should have forwarding allowed, not just in firewall,
I think. Then, new macs use modern protocols like "n". Check again
all options to have "g" included.
At first, try name resolution.

Sorry for the late reply, I somehow forgot to answer this earlier.

I would first setup manual IPs between your Mac and N800 and run ping
between the two verify if that works. That way you could know if it's
a problem with WLAN protocol or upper layers (DHCP, IP routing, DNS
etc.). If ping works then it's an upper layer problem.

Hi,

i think before he can get connection, he might not be able to even install
xterm.

most of my guess will go for the MacBook handling the Internet sharing. Also
both unit must set their wifi to Ad Hoc mode, at least that setting works
for my n800+thinkpad+ubuntu setup.

all the best!

regards,
wahlau

One can also ping from laptop and manual IP can be set from N800 UI,
so no need for xterm.
