Using the SDK on debian unstable

Hi everyone!

To start with I'm completely new to maemo. I'm very interested in the environment and planned to start playing with it, but I went in to some problems.

I'm running a X86 desktop with latest debian unstable installed. I downloaded the .debs from scratchbox.org. (The ones pointed out from the installation tutorial: scratchbox-core_0.9.8.8_i386.deb, scratchbox-devkit-debian_0.9.8.8_i386.deb, scratchbox-libs_0.9.8.8_i386.deb, scratchbox-toolchain-cs2005q3.2-glibc-arm_0.9.8.5-6_i386.deb, scratchbox-toolchain-cs2005q3.2-glibc-i386_0.9.8.5-6_i386.deb).

The installation went fine, I said that my user should be able to use scratchbox, a new group was created and my used was added to that group.

So I did:
/scratchbox/login

And got the following message:

---8<---
Welcome to *Scratchbox*, the cross-compilation SDK!

Scratchbox is a self-contained mini-distribution that contains all the
tools needed to configure and cross-compile Open Source software using
GNU make and *autoconf*. All the software configuration, compilation
and installation is done in a sandbox environment exactly like on your
target device. This is achieved by using chroot to limit system
visibility for configuration scripts you run from this shell, into what
exists inside the Scratchbox sandbox.

The Scratchbox utilities are:
sbox-config - Change your compilation target
ps - List processes running inside your sandbox

Completed writing configuration to: /targets/HOST.config

You have 1 other Scratchbox session running!
You must terminate it before the active target can be changed.

awk: cmd. line:2: fatal: cannot open file `/targets/links/scratchbox.config' for reading (No such file or directory)
[sbox-: ~] >

---8<---

So as I see there are two problems here, it does not find the scratchbox.config, and it believes that I'm currently running any other scratchbox sessions.
This makes it impossible to switch target to another (which is the next step in the tutorial).

Any suggestions appreciated!

Best Regards
Richard

A few days ago I reported this on IRC and it was because of the 2.6.18
kernel. I see that that one is now the unstable version. So if you
have it, downgrade it to 2.6.17.

I can confirm that I have 2.6.18, so I will downgrade to .17 and retry. Thanks for the response!
