Re: individuals being able to join Ovi store

Please see original communications below.  The subject is "how can
indiduals without a business affiliation sell on Ovi?".  Currently they
are bing rejected:

Can we encourage a broadening of policy?  Should we?

I really believe we need to address the issue of individual
developers being unable to to sell through Ovi without being
incorporated.  One of the reasons I started the LinkedIn group
maemo daemons was to explore the idea of a loose consortium setup
for this purpose.

Oh, I thought if you pay the 50 € you can sell things as a
individual, does that changed ?
I've friends selling things through OVI (S60) and they aren't a legal
identity, maybe it varies from country to country.

Anyway this should be moved to the community list, you've my support
;).

Thanks for catch this issue.

Best regards,

I'm no expert in this area but I will definitely facilitate what
I can, if there's a way to resolve this with some sort of
collective.

Answer before jumping to the plane to Copenhagen' Maemo Developer Days: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=380253#post380253

Let's continue the discussion about OSS & Ovi wherever you prefer but one maemo.org place is enough.

I will respect Quim's request to have the discussion on talk.maemo.org and
will post my substantive reply there. However, as there are some people on
these lists who do not read talk.maemo.org regularly, I want to encourage
you to join that discussion.

My view is that this is a critical issue for us in maemo.org because of the
damage it does to the acceptance and success of the whole Maemo platform,
which will affect the number of open source developers and applciations
avaialable for the platform and the growth of the community. As I made
clear in my council campaign, I see the commercial success of the platform
and the effective working of both Nokia Forum and Ovi as important issues
for all of us in the free software side of the community.

A reminder... this discussion is happening in:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=34661

Please join the discussion there if it matters to you.

It actually jumped to

Confirmed/CAUTION: N900 Ovi Apps require Corporation + $1M USD Corporate
General Liability Insurace
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=34783

For the specific case of open source applications published in Ovi there
is this Brainstorm proposal where I'm trying to know what the Maemo
community thinks that would be the best approach:

Open source software distributed via store.ovi.com
http://maemo.org/community/brainstorm/view/open_source_software_distributed_via_store-ovi-com/

Please vote and discuss at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=385610
