onedotzero wrap-up

Hi everyone,

Yes, I know, technically, the onedotzero event isn't really over yet,
however, there won't be as much of a focus on Maemo (excepted for the
cool projector-fueled identity stuff) until the end of it anymore. If
you're in London tonight and have no idea what I'm talking about,
swing by BFI (near Waterloo) and follow the big light screens.

For the past 3 days, I've been meeting up with people involved
closely, and not so closely with the maemo.org community. For those
who have been hiding in caves for the past few months, onedotzero is
an organisation that aims at representing all type of art, without any
format discrimination. Anyone who performs any kind of art or creative
work is highly welcome. The onedotzero event in London, hosted at the
BFI, spanning from Wednesday until tomorrow was a showcase of all the
very dynamic, fluffly, electronic, vibrant and colourful ideas and
artists that enable onedotzero to be what it is today.

Over the past few weeks, lcuk has been helping onedotzero to create an
application that allowed people to interact with text displayed on a
wall, without any wires, effort, or complexity. A video of this is
available here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX2KGh-aUno

On Thursday night, there was an open presentation + QA about Open
Source, and how it can help design a creative world. This presentation
was led by a few panelists (Joel Gethin Lewis, Alexandra
Deschamps-Sonsino and our very own, Nokia's Harri Kiljander) and each
of them explained their views, and how Open Source shaped their work.
Today, there was a presentation by Jussi Makinen (luovanto, Nokia
Marketing), Andrew Flegg (Jaffa, Maemo Council) and Gary Birkett
(lcuk, maemo.org community member and liqbase creator) during which
they introduced the n900 device, Maemo platform, maemo.org community
and the huge potential that the whole Maemo experience is bringing to
everyone. The point of this performance (and it was quite a
performance) was to show how designers could benefit and also bring a
huge amount of quality and benefits to our community.

During these few days, a few local Maemoists have had the opportunity
to come together and socialise properly. We've had the chance to meet
Simon (lardman), Aniello (anidel), Valério (VDVsx), Andrew (Jaffa),
Gary (lcuk), Jussi (luovanto), Harri (kiljander), Faheem (qwerty12),
and maybe a few others that I don't remember.

Thanks to all for making it happen, it was highly interesting, a
definite success and on a social note, absolutely fantastic to meet
all of you. A big thank you obviously to everyone at onedotzero (no
idea if they're reading this), BFI, and Redbull.

Another random video when just generally messing about, but still
cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk27PenpAz0

Very nice wrap up Sebastian.

I've got nothing more to say, a part that is was fun and really
looking forward for that kind of spirit in Amsterdam at the Summit.
Just make it there.

Just FYI - the first mention of onedotzero on the list was only last tuesday -
8th Sept.

Unfortunately (for the community) Maemo @ onedotzero was a stealth
operation. Onedotzero, of course, happens every year. Maemo and the N900
was kept secret (by Nokia and the people who helped facilitate the
project) because of the N900/Maemo 5 launch.
