OneDotZero Nokia event...

Hi community,

Should the OneDotZero Nokia event, showcasing Maemo 5, appear in the
Events column/page on Maemo.org?

Yes it should. It's one of the greatest showcases to date about the street credibility of Maemo :)

Re: OneDotZero Nokia event... [In reply to]

Indeed :)

Actually... if it could show exactly at what time it is going to
happen I'd appreciate it.

The issue is that when I called today at lunch time the BFI staff
didn't know if it was still on.
They called me later confirming it and giving me a booking reference,
but then, after another 30 mins,
they called me back telling me the 2pm one was canceled! and booked me
for an event at 12pm...
I shall call back and check what's going on..

Cheers,
Aniello

If you happen to walk next to them and ask for details of the event as
they have it,
that'd be great.
But I suppose we can simply call them.

It's up to you if you wanna have a nice walk in this very nice weather
we've got today in London.

onedotzero update:

'it's good to be open' - panel discussion
Thu 10 Sept 19:00 Delegate Centre

open source developed out of an open distribution of software,
offering practical access source code for others to improve and
collaborate on. This open and collaborative approach has spread much
further as a means to approach design, development, and new production
models as the world wakes up to the value of sharing and openness.
Speakers to be confirmed soon.

Tickets are FREE but should be booked via the box office.

I've got a few documents, can scan if needed.

I know I do, but I'm still unclear about some details:

What:
When:
Where:

:)

What is "OnePointZero" - from their site it looks like some kind of new
media conference?

When is, I think, 12/9/09 at 12:30?

And where is somewhere in London?

If you can confirm the details for me, I'll add them after lunch.

Cheers,
Dave.

There are two events:

Event 1:
'it's good to be open' - panel discussion

When:
Thu 10 Sept 19:00

Where:
Delegate Centre,
the British Film Institute (BFI), Southbank, London, UK

Abstract (updated):
Open source developed out of an open distribution of software,
offering practical access to source code for others to improve and
collaborate on. This open and collaborative approach has spread much
further as a means to approach design, development, and new production
models as the world wakes up to the value of sharing and openness.
With speakers from Nokia, Tinker.it! and Joel Gethin Lewis.

Event 2:
"Nokia: the art of open source"

When:
Saturday 12th, 14pm (actually this may be incorrect, but it's what in
their webpage)

Where:
At the British Film Institute (BFI), Southbank, London, UK

Abstract:
An introductory workshop showcasing the development potential of the
Maemo platform.
Maemo developers will explain how you can get involved with this
dynamic developer community, the many different applications this open
source platform can facilitate and the new Nokia technologies that are
expanding the possibilities of open source collaboration between
designers, developers and users.

It's a media event, focused on images in movement as art.
It's not really a conference, but more a possibility for media artists
to showcase their
ideas , their perspective of Art from a multimedia point of view.

This is what I understood, at least :)

The second event is the one where Gary's showing off.
The first event was "discovered" by Sebastian a few mails earlier :)

Thanks!

About the event on Saturday, this is what the updated onedotzero page
says (addendum to the distributed time-plans):

nokia assembly workshops
Sat 12 Sept 12:00 and 14:00 Studio

An introductory workshop showcasing the development potential of the
Maemo platform. Maemo developers will explain how you can get involved
with this dynamic developer community, the many different applications
this open source platform can facilitate and the new Nokia
technologies that are expanding the possibilities of open source
collaboration between designers, developers and users.

Tickets are FREE but should be booked via the box office.

The hosts at BFI didn't have any more information than that.

Actually the Maemo event/workshop is only at 12pm:

This is definitive and confirms what the BFI guy said on the phone to me.

Pfft, you got more notice than me! For those who don't know, I'm now
going to be presenting half an hour on Saturday on the Maemo
community.

Slides'll be made available after the event. If anyone wants to have a
look before hand/provide feedback, that'd be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi guys,

For those who are coming to ODZ in London, would it be cool to ask you to wear the maemo.org t.-shirts? (if it's not cramping your style I mean... :)

Would be great that the attendees would know who to ask for a thing or two about Maemo.

Ah yes, not everyone has those. Well, actually I haven't got any myself nor anyone from our office anymore. True collectors item I guess. So then just stick to the style and keep vocal about your community status :)

Assuming mine's got from the wash basket to the washing machine and
been ironed since Nokia World. It was *awfully* hot in that party.
Dancing didn't help either.

Agreed.

I don't want to steal my own thunder, though! I'll see about putting
them online this evening.

Cheers,

In an unbelievable level of faffiness, here they are with some basic
notes I typed up to see if it hung together on the train:

http://bleb.org/software/maemo/odz/img0.html

Nothing there should really be news to people on this mailing list.

Cheers,

Nit-picking :-)
Slide 2. (img1.html) 25000? I can see 20706 on garage, talk has 24019 members. Am I missing something? Or are you just rounding up.

It was a train-based guesstimate. There were 12,503 enabled accounts
on tmo in mid-August (when I was working with Reggie and X-Fade on
linking tmo & garage accounts) and 20,706 on garage. I was assuming
that there's an overlap and a difference between the two sets, and
then rounding to a nice big number. Ideally, I wouldn't round; an
exact number would be cool. Indeed, with the push for people to link &
create maemo.org accounts and tmo accounts, there should be a more
accurate guesstimate producible. But it'd still be a guess.

Anyone *object* to the 25,000 number?

Cheers,

Andrew
