Re: PyMaemo (Python for maemo) alpha release for Fremantle

Hi, moving this to maemo-community since I don't want to discuss the
technical aspect of the news but the news itself.

The fact of having Python bindings for Fremantle is very cool and I
think it would be worth an announcement in maemo.org

Until now the maemo.org announcements have been all written by Nokia
employees but it's about time for the community to take over that, don't
you think?

The Community Council is able to write announcements, I would suggest to
let them handle 'community' announcements like this?

Being a "community" announce, I think it should be the "council" who
writes it ;-)

For us, it is OK to let someone from the Community Council relay the
announcements.

Fine by the council :-D

I'll make sure there's a PyMaemo announcement up at some point over the weekend.

Cheers,

Andrew

Given that the maemo.org/news/ ranking system worked - and a PyMaemo
for Fremantle story[1] appeared on the front page - I don't think
there's a need for a separate announcement to be pushed.

Does anyone disagree?

Cheers,

Andrew

Not with this example, but perhaps with others.

The core idea was that the announcements need to be more used by the
community and not just Nokia employees. It's good that some things stay
on top no matter how many hearts they get. Some of the news being
published in the Council blog could deserve to become an announcement.

What are the practical differences between an announcement (presumably
in the "news" category) and a council blog post (in the "council"
category)? Is there a different treatment on the front page, as on
/news/ the treatment seems equal (along with planet posts and garage
announcements)?

Cheers,

Andrew

Announcements stay longer on the homepage, but this is so obvious that
perhaps you were asking something else? :)

Also, people with a mild interest in maemo.org might subscribe only to
the announcements feed, expecting to be notified only about the very
important news of the project.

No, it really wasn't obvious :-)

So there are three RSS feeds which are pertinent?
* planet
* news
* announcements

Andrew
