[lvs-users] request

I aim to install Virtual Server on Ubuntu Linux. My first question is how to
install it? Also how to configure it to be connected to two real servers?

Hi,

ipvsadm exists in the Ubuntu repository. You'll get answers for your
questions about configuration in the LVS-HOWTO at
http://www.austintek.com/LVS/LVS-HOWTO/HOWTO/

IPVS is built as a module of the kernel and your server has
linux-image package installed... likely.

Hi,

Is that these configurations are also valid even if the real servers
are virtual
machines?

Re: [lvs-users] request [In reply to]

Hi,

It's not important for LVS. Check for ip connectivity between
interfaces of guest system and host system, routing. As I understand
you want to use host system as Director and guest as RS. Here are no
special way to configure hosts for your needs.

Re: [lvs-users] request [In reply to]

Does this help with your second question?

I installed ipvsadm on Debian and wrote up my notes at http://www.planetlarg.net/car-size-cluster-build/add-ha-high-availability/create-ipvs-load-balancer-ifw01. These instructions may apply to Ubuntu - I don't know.

My notes describe a very basic NAT setup, with pretty pictures and small words. It's like a stupid version of the excellent http://www.austintek.com/LVS/LVS-HOWTO/mini-HOWTO/LVS-mini-HOWTO.html by the very clever Joseph Mack.

[lvs-users] request [In reply to]

Hi,

I aim to install Linux Virtual Server on Ubuntu. Iwant to configure it to be
connected to two real servers. These two servers are virtual machines.
Therefore,
they have the same IP address as the host. What to do in this case?

Thank you.

I don't understand your logic. Why would the virtual server have the
same IP as the host? This is (AFAIK) not even possible. In any case it's
not common.

In any case, you should read the HOWTO first. Everything you need is in
there.

Good luck.

In fact, the two virtual machines have the same ip address. What to do?

Thanks.

hmm... strange network !
To have a "working" IP lan, they MUST have different @ otherwise
there's nothing to do in
create an alias on the network interface
#ifconfig eth0:UniqueIPAddress
make the routage possible and use this two new address
Guess 192.168. should be a good start for two machines.
But please, RTFM to know how this @ should be used in this private network !
Hope they have different MAC !
(evrything is possible in this crazy world)

It seems to me that the easiest solution to this is
to give each of the virtual machines different addresses.
