[lvs-users] Configuring HA

Hi,

Can you please tell me the available options to configure HA between two different networks

i.e. my primary server is running on 192.168.x.x network and my backup server is running on 10.48.x.x networks

Pardon me if sent this request to wrong mailing address

Thanks

regards
Asela

Correct Mailling list: heartbeat, corosync or pacemaker projekt. See:
www.clusterlabs.org

Answer depends on the communication layer you use:
- heartbeat: configure unicast
- corosync: configure correct multicast routing or tunnel the multicast traffic.

Hello!

You can try tunneling method for load balancing. Start from here:
http://www.linuxvirtualserver.org/VS-IPTunneling.html
We are using this type of installation and it works well.

Re: [lvs-users] Configuring HA [In reply to]

Hi,

Many thanks for the response
My query is bit different than the mentioned sample in below link

In my case there is no virtual server (separate server as a load balancer) but the service is run on the primary server it self

Here I have only two servers
Primary with IP 192.168.x.x (where SMPP service is running on it)
Secondary server with IP 10.48.x.x (where clone of the primary server is available)

I have not front server as load balancer but only above two servers.

Here I need to have the HA between these two servers
As I have learnt, there is no option to move my primary servers network to the secondary server since they are in different networks

So I'm seeking a possible mechanism to have HA on such situation

Please guide me

Thanks

Regards
Asela

Re: [lvs-users] Configuring HA [In reply to]

Oh, sorry, I didn't pay enough attention to the question.

The only thing that comes to my mind is dynamic (being set only on
primary fail) IP alias in the primary server's network router with
dynamical masquerading, which will redirect requests to backup server.
But in this case IPVS is not needed...

Sorry if I'm wrong again.

Re: [lvs-users] Configuring HA [In reply to]

Hi,

I'm not quit understand how I can use the same method for my case.
As I have detailed below I have no virtual server but only one primary server and a backup server which are at different networks

Can you elaborate this with a sample example

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
Could it be possible to elaborate this further?
How I can move a network IP to a totally different network

Regards
Asela

You're asking in the wrong place, unfortunately - but the short answer
is that you're trying something which is almost impossible. You cannot
move an IP address between networks (most of the time), especially if
they're hosted by different providers.

Follow Michael's suggestions.
