non-exact matching of search terms

if i search a term 'lucene',
is there any way i can get results with lucene, luce, lu even l?

Fuzzy search is supported.

http://lucene.apache.org/java/2_3_2/queryparsersyntax.html

It is common to rewrite the user's query to invoke capabilities like this.
SOLR provides lots of query rewrite capabilities.
