Ted (or anyone), do you want to work out a patch?

I wonder if NIOFSDir (which uses java.nio.*'s positional reads), or,
MMapDir are affected by this sun bug...

I would love to, but I am totally swamped right now.

Whether NIOFSDir would help is a very interesting question.
