heartbeat v3.0.x or openAIS or both?

Hello,

About 2 years ago I implemented heartbeat 2.1.3 with crm (now
pacemaker). Now, I find myself having to start a new project which
needs HA capability and the monitoring of a few services in the
cluster. I began digging into the state of things now and became
confused fairly quickly. The old http://www.linux-ha.org/ site seems
to have some old and newer references - for instance, I found
heartbeat 3.0.x through that site (at
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/server:/ha-clustering/CentOS_5/i386/).
I also read up a bit about openais as it seemed to be preferred at the
pacemaker site. I began searching some of this lists archives and
didn't figure out where to begin.

Anyway, my question is, what should I use? What should I read? My
project requirements are: CentOS 5.x cluster of at least 2 servers
which may be geographically disparate with the need to monitor Apache
and a custom daemon as cluster resources.

TIA
-Scott

Sorry for the extra noise on this. I finally found an email thread
from March of 2009 which addresses this question. Just have to use the
right search keys. Here's the link, if anyone stumbles across this
message:
