It's sure that nothing'll happen if you're doing heartbeat over a serial
line or both a serial and NIC.

Please at least show us your ha.cf, and give more detail in the
subject of your mail, or nobody can help you.

If my guess is right, what you may need is ipfail, about which
there've been quite some discussions in this list. Use the list archive
to find more.

I'm not sure I understand what you're doing, and what you're having problems
with.

You cannot define an address which you've configured in with the OS startup
procedures as a resource in haresources. It says that clearly in the
documentation, and it also gives a message when you start up. It sounds
like that's what you're doing.

Why are you trying to take the working interface down?

hi..

i think your are trying to test heartbeat ( correct me
if am wrong! ) .. failover of node ha1 to ha2 by
taking down the ethernet interface of ha1 node on
which the haresource ip is configured.. so you are
issuing the command "ifconfig eth0 down"

Alan is right that you cannot configure the interface
ip as your haresource .. it is clearly stated in the
docs!!!

so if you have

ha1 : 172.16.11.1
ha2 : 172.16.11.2

you should configure the haresouce ip something as
172.16.11.3.. think of it as a cluster ip / service ip
.. and this is the ip on which your services will
run!!!

the ha.cf.. it needs to be same on both the nodes as
stated in the docs clearly ..

on a curious note .. has anybody noticed that if you
do ( on Redhat 7.x )
ifconfig ethx down

and then you do
ifconfig -a

you can still see that interface and the ip configured
though the interface is down and it doesnt work!!! it
may sound silly but any idea why does this happen ?
