CVS

Ok, I have tried and tried and tried to grab the CVS using the CVS_getws.sh
script. I am running Fedora Core 4 logged in as root, it obtains root
permissions, then sets the workspace to /tmp/????/ and then times out. Is
there a trick?

It just worked for me (I'm in Beijing at the moment).

Do you have CVS installed?

Does your firewall block any outgoing ports?
