Yes. They may be contradictory, however (eg if I specify codepage=437 and
iocharset=iso8859-2 it kind of "works", but I don't think it's OK).

Yes, it does, but you have to be root to do this (ie overkill). However, it
turns out that the "first" mount works if you specify both codepage and
iocharset at the same time even if they do not fit each to other (eg cp437
and iso8859-2). It looks like a bug to me.

BTW, I think the mount should be reported as "ro" if it's not _really_ "rw".

I've seen other messages fly by on lkml concerning the vfat the ro/rw,
code page, and such confusions you report. The points you raise make
sense ... I haven't been paying close enough attention to explain
further. I've just been happily using the remount,rw workaround ...
