HVR-1600 not recognized -- dmesg | grep cx18 attached

HVR-1600 not recognized -- dmesg \| grep cx18 attached

Just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex and I am trying to
get it to work with my Hauppauge HVR-1600 capture card . This is my
first Linux box and my primary motive is to play around with MythTV.

I can't get it to work. I've followed the instructions here:

When I issue "dmesg | grep cx18", this is what I get:

Intrepid Ibex should with the HVR-1600 and MythTV out of the box. Can you
post the dmesg for the distribution kernel and modules.

Maybe this was a newbie error...I tried to install the drivers for the
card by going through the instructions on MythTV's pages as well as on
ivtvdriver.org. Then someone on this list brought to my attention that
the card should have been supported 'out of the box' with the new
kernel....and it was. As soon as I removed the drivers that I had
tried to install manually, the card was recognized...
