select audio input?

Hey,

Is it possible to select an audio input from say my Sound Blaster Live!
rather than my pvr250 audio line in? I suspect the audio jack is damaged.

thanks..

Re: select audio input? [In reply to]

Okay, I think I have found what I am looking for, I was initially using
'ivtvctl'

$ v4l2-ctl --list-audio-inputs
ioctl: VIDIOC_ENUMAUDIO
Input : 0
Name : Tuner 1

Input : 1
Name : Line In 1

Input : 2
Name : Line In 2

Well this only lists the available inputs on the pvr-250.

Sure but your recording program will have to take the audio from the
soundcard. This is kind of painful as you will need to sync up audio
and video manually.

It would be helpful if you can explain what it is you want to achieve.

I suspect the audio jack on my pvr-250 is physically damaged as the plug
appears to have bent, the jack goes in on an angle now. I use mythtv to
record and for play back the audio is passed through spdif to my receiver
and I only have sound in my center channel, no side or rear channels. I was
hoping to bypass the audio line in on my pvr-250 to possibly verify my
theory.

The jack is only for INPUT and you are describing OUTPUT. Normally if
you record from a the tuner the INPUT jack is not used. Only when you
use something like s-video you would use the input jack on the back.
How are you recording?

I feel the problem is with the input... Sorry for the confusion. Yes I
record video from SVIDEO IN and for audio I have the 2 RCA cables merged
together using an RCA to phono adapter plugged into the tuners audio in. I
could try recording from coaxial cable to see if the resulting encoded audio
plays back properly. I can try this tonight when I get home.

I suppose there is a possibility that the audio is encoded properly in the
mpg file, but is mangled by a mythtv audio setting before being passed
through spdif causing the sound to only come through my center channel.

DVDs sound amazing so I assumed there was a problem with my audio input as
it looked physically damaged.

I set the input to "tuner 1" and ran `mplayer /dev/video0` the audio output
from coaxial did playback through my side and rear channels. It's not
perfect it's slightly distorted compared to the audio when watching straight
TV.

Thanks Sander, the converstaion was actually helpful.
