Attempting to get my Club 3D ZAP-TV1101R to work

Hi Mailinglist Users,

According to the Mailinglist rules: I am not subscribed to this List.

I downloaded and installed today the new 0.10.4 driver in the hope that
this driver now supports my TV-Card, also because i have seen this:

...
#ifdef HAVE_XC3028

/* Yuan PG600-2/GotView PCI DVD Lite/Club3D ZAP-TV1x01 cards */
...

in the ivtv-cards.c inside the ivtv-0.10.4.tar.gz:/ivtv-0.10.4/driver/

I dont have a clue about programming, i am just a normal user. So i
thought the driver would detect my card automatically. But it has not.

The dmesg output of the ivtv modules:

ivtv: ==================== START INIT IVTV ====================
ivtv: version 0.10.4 (tagged release) loading
ivtv: Linux version: 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 SMP mod_unload

My Linux distribution is Fedora 7. The Kernel is
kernel-2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 arch:x86_64

Do i have to add some lines or options in my modprobe.conf?

Please help me.

What kind of help do you need? According to the above dmesg output,
it looks like your card is installed, configured and initialized. You should have
devices /dev/video0, /dev/video32 /dev/vbi0 /dev/video24. To test
it, you should be able to do a 'cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test.mpg',
and see the file grow. If in fact that works, then you just need
to figure out what kind of TV viewing application you are going to use
and let it know you have a /dev/video0 device. There is lots
of discussion about that all over the web. mythtv, tvtime, mplayer,
etc are all possibilities.

Although ivtv might recognize the card properly it does not mean the
tuner on this card is supported in linux. If I am not mistaken there is
some very experimental support in someones forked branch of v4l-dvb but
this will be difficult to get working properly for a user if at all.

There is no tuner detected and if you capture it will most likely give a
black image. I am not sure but you *might* get the s-video in to work...
But untill the tuner is supported your out of luck :(

There is an entry
in /usr/share/doc/kernel-doc-2.6.21/Documentation/video4linux/CARDLIST.tuner:

tuner=71 - Xceive xc3028

I thought this means, the tuner is supported in linux. I am wrong with
that?

The card is detected as: Yuan PG600, Diamond PVR-550 and not as: Yuan
PG600-2/GotView PCI DVD Lite/Club3D ZAP-TV1x01!

Correct, i already tested this.

I can not test this suggestion, because i dont have a Television set.

I do not know what kind of list this is but I am sure support for this
tuner is absent.

I do not know the details of your card but as I understand it most of
the cx23416 based cards are basically of the same design. The
differences I saw most on the list are on the tuner used. If I am
completely wrong here (or even a little) Hans will correct me ;-)

I am talking about tv input which can also be a dvd player hooked up to
your s-video *input*.

Correct, there is no support for this tuner in the kernel. Work is being
done to make a user-space driver for this tuner available and it's on
my list to see if I can use that in ivtv. This tuner has been the
victim of a rather vicious fight between several v4l-dvb developers. It
really should have been in the kernel at least a year ago, but
everything that can go wrong did go wrong :-(

Detection of cards based on PCI IDs can be rather hit-and-miss. Many
board derived from Yuan-based designs still have a Yuan vendor ID, even
though it is really a different vendor. And the device ID is
sometimes 'unstable' (i.e. a different value after each reboot) or
insufficiently unique.

This should work.

Hans
