Re: [mythtv-users] PVR-350 on FC6 black screen on playback

Hi folks,

I have seen several reports about problems with PVR-350 TV output with
the latest ivtv release. Are there any theories about why it is
happening or what it might take to fix? My current status is below. Is
there any benefit to performing a "yum upgrade" to the latest kernel?
It seems the problem exists there too. If anyone sees something I can
fix, please let me know. I appreciate your time. Also, apologies if
you read this on the MythTV list.

Regards,

Fred

It's a known issue. The FC6 kernel is missing the saa7127 module. The
easiest fix is to install the video4linux package.

Sam,

Is this different than
video4linux-kmdl-2.6.19-1.2911.fc6-20070302-78.fc6.at which I have
already installed? What package would I load?

Yes, but you most likely need to manually load the module.

Run "modprobe saa7127" by hand, and see what happens.

Re: [mythtv-users] PVR-350 on FC6 black screen on playback [In reply to]

Two more updates:

- Tried adding the modules to the ivtv line in modprobe.conf, same result
- Is it possible I would have better results with a different window
manager than KDE? Could that be interfering with playback (it never
did before, I know).

Re: [mythtv-users] PVR-350 on FC6 black screen on playback [In reply to]

Isn't this just simply a matter of setting the OSD alpha channel to the
right mode?

Try these:
ivtvfbctl -d /dev/fb0 --localalpha=off
ivtvfbctl -d /dev/fb0 --globalalpha=off

Regards,
Stanley.

Re: [mythtv-users] PVR-350 on FC6 black screen on playback [In reply to]

OK, problem solved! I did not need the ivtvfbctl settings suggested by
Stanley. Once I was able to restore my MythTV database and start the
frontend, I was a happy man. I am now able to playback video, but for
some reason new recordings are playing a little too fast. Everyone has
"helium voices" but the audio is in sync with the video. Any ideas?
Maybe something about the recording settings I need to check? Old
recordings seem to be fine.

Here is my final modprobe.conf config for ivtv:

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
alias char-major-81-1 ivtv
options ivtv tuner=-1,50
options ivtv-fb osd_compat=1
install ivtv /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ivtv; /sbin/modprobe ivtv-fb
install ivtv /sbin/modprobe saa7127; /sbin/modprobe cx25840;
/sbin/modprobe wm8775; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ivtv;
/sbin/modprobe ivtv-fb
