(another) feedback with latest cvs

Hi all,

I just tried getting a stream from my PVR-250 with latest CVS. Extracting
firmware / compiling the driver just as explained in documentation seem to
have passed OK, but including the module unfortunatly does not work as
expected (see below). It looks like firmware loading failed, any idea about
this ? I have made the files available at <http://titer.org/ivtv/>, if it can
help.

I had these define in extract-fw.c :
#define DRIVER "/usr/src/i/ivtv/utils/hcwPVRP2.sys"
#define ENC_OFFSET 0xad7f8
#define DEC_OFFSET 0x6d7f8
then compiled and ran it; it generated the *.bin without any error or warning.

hcwPVRP2.sys comes from winnt/system32/drivers/ of my win2k install. I have no
idea what driver version it is (where do you get this under windows?)

I'm not sure. The only way to tell for sure is to grab
a hex editor and make sure those offsets are correct.
(by searching for the signatures as per the
documentation)

Alternately, try downloading the 1.6 drivers from
hauppauge's site and using the other offsets in the
extraction util.

OK, the correct offsets for my hcwPVRP2.sys were 0xad778 and 0x6d778, actually
(sorry, I forgot to look at the documentation on the website). Now the module
loads without a problem, I get an MPEG stream !

Moreover, the stream looks very correct here (both VLC and mplayer play it
without complaining, and there is no visible artifact in the picture). It
looks there is nothing on channel 4 here in France so I only get blizard, but
I will try to find a good channel on another frequency. Hopefully I could see
a decent picture even if it is SECAM (?)

script which did searching. I ceased work on mine,
just put the same tool that i used up.

Perhaps his CVS access is broken? I haven't heard from
him in a while

Yes, i have the settings for switching inputs and
such, i just have to program them in.. I plan on
getting off work early tomorrow (have to work late
AGAIN tonight) so i'll patch that in at that time.
Perhaps even channel-changing! (gasp!)

If any of our testers would mind noting what in the
documentation could be improved, i'd like that. I get
a lot of questions about firmware extraction and such.
It all seems decent to me, but i'm a bit on the techie
side:)

Urg. I don't think anybody came up with a good SECAM config for the ref
drivers. Somebody did ask me, but I wasn't able to help. I suppose we need
to get another i2c snoop volunteer...

FWIW, it was rather easy to attach the lmilk probe to the tuner module (nice
big leads) although I did have to attach the ground clip to the tuner can.

For my FI1236:

In other words, pin 11 is closest to the back of the compter.

I think i may have found one actually. I could be off,
but i saw 3 types of inputs selected while looking at
the dumps. One for tuner, one for svideo/composite
(only one connector for both on mine) and one mystery
one, which i assume is secam. Could be wrong tho.

The saa7114 had input switching also, it's probably
similar enough to figure out on my own. Not that I
have secam to test with, but i have lots of
euro-testers ;)

Also, i don't like the default 7115 setup. I get lots
of horizontal artifacts which i guess are due to
de-interlacing. I need to fiddle! heh. I'll do that
once i get an interface/driver for it.

I know I'm wicked tired; I'm not grokking what you said. SECAM is a composite
standard like PAL and NTSC, so there shouldn't be a matter of input switching
but setting the appropriate register values in the 7115 for SECAM signal
processing. OTOH, I could be quite wrong.

As far as the horizontal artifacts, I had a suboptimal setup for the 7115
shortly before I sent it to you. Once I use all the correct NTSC values from
the ref driver did it clear things up.
