[ANN] ivtv on hold for the next few weeks

Hi all,

As you may have noticed I haven't done much with ivtv lately and this is
expected to continue for the next few weeks. The main two reasons for
this are that I worked very hard to get it into the kernel and so I
needed some time off, and that for my work I'll be moving to Lysaker,
Norway for what will probably be the next 5-6 months. I'm leaving this
Friday and I expect that it will take a while to settle in. It should
be possible for me to continue my work on ivtv, but it will take some
time to set everything up.

Some people have problems with clock drift and remote keypresses. These
are almost certainly caused by the use of PIO memory copies inside the
ivtv interrupt routine. Two or three weeks ago I made a patch to fix
this, but unfortunately it introduced a new problem: sliced VBI
handling for the cx2584x digitizer broke: half of the VBI data seems to
go missing. Oddly enough it works fine for the saa7115 digitizer.

The patch is available here:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~hverkuil/ivtv-pio.diff

And I'd love it if someone can discover why it no longer works with the
cx2584x.

I do not have time for this, so I hope someone else can take up the
gauntlet.

Regards,

Hans

And this is appreciated, many thanks Hans!

Good luck Hans!
Any chance that you can fix the decoder stop bug before you move?
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/devel/35305
Would be a pity to let it buggy in trunk and v4l-dvb hg for weeks or months.
BTW: http://ivtvdriver.org/viewcvs/ gives a "The requested URL /viewcvs/ was not found on this server"

Just fixed it. I couldn't understand what was wrong with it until I
suddenly saw the light :-)

Fixed in the ivtv trunk, and it's queued for the v4l-dvb tree.

Hans

Hi,

It looks that this topic is my last chance to get an answer to my
question, which I already asked twice. I hope I will have this time
more luck.

"ivtvctl --reset-ir" gives me this on my PVR150 (0.10.1 with 2.6.20.1):
ioctl VIDIOC_INT_RESET failed: Invalid argument

and I need this command to work, because my IR is never recognized
after reboot. only if I suspend and wake up my computer, IR starts to
work (almost always).

Thanks. I would appreciate any help.

M.

Fixed in the ivtv 0.10 branch. Weird, I must have missed your question
the first two times, I can't remember reading it.

Are you sure you are using the 0.10.1 user space apps?

Hope all works nicely & successfully in Norway!

Perhaps an immediate 0.10.2 release with some of the fixes would be
nice, I can prepare it if you like.

Re: ivtv on hold for the next few weeks [In reply to]

Nobody has an idea?

I checked utils/ivtvctl.c for --reset-ir ... and:

----------------
if (option_reset_ir) {
doioctl(fd, VIDIOC_INT_RESET, NULL, "VIDIOC_INT_RESET");
}
...

static int doioctl(int fd, int request, void *parm, const char *name)
----------------

*parm is NULL? is that ok this way?

I always get "failed: invalid argument" with 0.10.1 .... any ideas?
how could I debug this why I get invalid argument?

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Hans, thanks for your help.

I thought you were talking about latest 0.10.1.

remote control is working at the moment, also after reboot and I do
not need --reset-ir. But I tried to run it and I received the same
error as before. I loaded ivtv with and without newi2c=1.

Is that normal?

Re: ivtv on hold for the next few weeks [In reply to]

Anyone who could give me an advice on this problem? This card cannot
be used this way any more, because I have to suspend to ram my
computer a few times before the IR is again available. And if I
reboot, IR is gone again.

I was thinking about selling it, but I like everything about pvr150...

thanks

Don't sell it! It's something simple, but I just haven't had time to look
at it. I hope to have a test machine up and running this week so that I
can start testing and fixing this issue.

BTW, it would be much appreciated if you can recap the precise problem,
I'm a bit fuzzy on the details and I cannot easily access the older emails
at the moment.

Regards,

Hans

Hi Hans and thanks for your help.

My IR is mostly not recognized. After suspending my computer to ram
("standby"), IR comes back. But usually I have to suspend the computer
a few times before IR is being recognized. IR disappears every time
after reboot.

I tried 0.10 branch and it did not help. --reset-ir gives me still this error:

root [at] machin/# ivtvctl --reset-ir
ioctl VIDIOC_INT_RESET failed: Invalid argument

root [at] machin:/# ivtvctl --version
ivtvctl version 0.10.2 (development snapshot compiled on Fr 13 Apr
2007 12:12:44 CEST)

I tried loading ivtv with and without "newi2c=1", but no changes.

this is ivtv in dmesg (after "modprobe ivtv"):

Hi Hans,

it is still not merged in the main hg. Can you remind Mauro?

I've mailed Mauro a reminder. I think I forgot to CC the pull request to
him the first time, which might be why he missed it.

Thanks,

Hans

It's now merged in the v4l-dvb repo.
