Computer reboots using 500MCE

Computer reboots using 500MCE

I downloaded the ivtv-0.3.2j source and configured my card as
instructed. When I do 'cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg' my computer would
reboot after about 10 seconds of video capture.

Later, I installed the following from atrpms.net:
kernel-2.6.10-1.770_14.rhfc3.at
video4linux-kmdl-2.6.10-1.770_14.rhfc3.at-20050310_100754-57.rhfc3.at
ivtv-kmdl-2.6.10-1.770_14.rhfc3.at-0.3.2i-72.rhfc3.at

...and for a moment I thought the problem was gone. But, after about 3
minutes of video capture my computer rebooted. This happened whether I
was running the capture from a command line (runlevel 3) or KDE.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My system is:
AMD Athlon 1800
Biostar M7VIT motherboard
with a VIA VT8377 (KT400)/VT8235 chipset
and a Winbond W83697HF
NVidia FX video card
1GB RAM
Hauppauge 500MCE
Fedora Core 3
480W Power Supply

My KT333 motherboard just reset all the time. the
Intel chipsets have worked beautifully.

I can't at all use any of the capture cards on my test
machine because this particular chipset won't work
with this card. I think Jarod's had better luck with
VIA, but the consensus is to steer away from their
chipsets.

Correct, I've used a number of different Via chipset boards without a problem,
but it does seem to be hit and miss for many folks. My "definitely working"
board list includes an MSI KM2M Combo-L (KM266 chipset), an MSI KM4M-L (KM400
chipset) and an EPoX 8KHA+ (KT266 chipset), with an Asus A7V-333WR (KT333
chipset) that I just dropped my PVR-500 into over the weekend for production
use, but haven't yet got up and running.

Robert,

Not sure about the lockup's but I know your not getting the correct
modules loaded for your board. I had similar ivtv log output and
always got static on every channel.

The no radio present is the key.

I'm running FC3 using ATrpm's as per Jarod's guide.The tricky part is
that there is module overlap between V4L2, IVTV and the base kernel. I
think you need to install the IVTV last to make sure nothing get's
overwritten. I was close to having it working before and the IVTV
logs looked good except it was complaining about the radio on the 500
mce. Now that it's working that message is gone from the log. Bottom
line is that I was loading either the wrong tveeprom or tuner module.
It was close but not quite there.

Just in case anyone is saving up working configs on VIA MBs I have an Asus
A7V8X-X (KT400 chipset) that has never given me any trouble. From what I
have seen in postings this MB seems to work well for many others too.

My card is working! :)

I updated my motherboard's bios and rebooted. I've been watching the
500MCE for the past hour and it hasn't rebooted.
