help!

I am the owner of an online shopping site www.ny-beauty-secrets.com. The host for my site has been Netwave Designs(James Nemeth). He let my domain name with godaddy.com expire ( ! ) As well all of his contact information has been disconnected or terminated. My businees has been immediately shut down! As well I cannot access any of my files or customer orders thru the Interchange. The shopping cart as well is affected. Netwave also owns my other (active) domain name www.nybeautysecrets.com which I understand from godaddy.com is active until 8/2010. I would like to know if you would be able to help me to access the Interchange and gain access to all my information. I would like to be able to continue with your services. Is there a way I can avoid the timely process of rebuilding an entire site?
Thanks
Suzy

First contact is of course your host. If you want to switch to another
host, urge Netwave Designs to deliver all files (including database) to you.

You can get professional help for your problem as described here:

http://www.icdevgroup.org/i/dev/support/index

Or drop in to IRC channel #interchange for advice.

Well you seem to have two problems. One is the domain names and the
second is the loss of your site and data. Checking the whois records
for those two domains they are indeed registered to Netwave, so unless
you can contact him and get him to release the domain names you are
stuck with either (1) waiting for the grace period to end and hoping
that you can register them yourself before a domain squatter gets them,
or (2) initiating the domain dispute process which is very expensive
(we're talking a couple thousand dollars per domain iirc).

As for the data itself, if you have a backup of the site and data then
that can be used depending on how complete the backup is. Otherwise if
you have access to the admin UI you may be able to copy quite a bit of
the pages and other data off from there, but it probably won't be
complete. If you have some form of file or shell access to the server
then you can probably get more data off. I can certainly help you with
this in terms of recovering as much data as possible.

Please feel free to email me directly to discuss the options available
or join #interchange on irc.icdevgroup.org and there will be someone
there who can help.

Going to the netwavedesign.com website and clicking on there hosting
service options, they have a "We'll be back soon" message. That's
troubling... Is anyone answering the calls or email at Netwavedesign?
It seems that your nybeautysecrets.com site is Interchange AND running
fine. Is this just ONE catalog with two domain names? or are they two
completely separate catalogs? You should be able to get all your data
and Interchange code of you can somehow still log into the server at
NETWAVEDESIGN.COM regardless of the name expire issue. There is a grace
period of about a month where they can simply pay to renew the domain,
if that grace period goes by, then there is a last minute "get this
domain back" option that will cost a couple of hundred dollars, after
that it ends up being available to public.

The bad thing is that the SecureURL points to www.ny-beauty-secrets.com,
so you can browse the site, but not use the cart and the administration.

Right, bummer, another quick fix option to think about is to grab a
secure cert for www.nybeautysecrets.com

You can get into the admin with a line in your hosts file. From there
you may be able to change the SecureURL if it is (as usual) set via a
catalog variable, even if that is not the case it is possible to use the
admin's file interface to upload a new catalog.cfg file. Of course this
presumes access to the admin UI to begin with.

Brilliant, you would also have to know what the IP address "was" for
that secure server... Suzane are you still there? Did you get in touch
wih anybody at Netwavedesign? If you know the old IP address, this
would be a good move that will allow you to at least log into your admin
area and back everything up.

Just because the domain is expired doesn't mean the DNS server doesn't
have the entry for it anymore. Assuming that both the above domains use
the same DNS servers:

peter[at]peter-desktop:~$ dig @NS1.NETWAVEDESIGN.COM www.ny-beauty-secrets.com

...

www.ny-beauty-secrets.com. 86400 IN A 64.139.217.61

So the line you would add to your hosts file would be:
64.139.217.61 www.ny-beauty-secrets.com ny-beauty-secrets.com
