anybody using a sales tax database?

Hello list

I was wondering if anyone in the Interchange ecommerce world is using a US
state/district/city sales tax database, and if you are happy with it. I
presume I am referring to the commercially available ones, as I think there
is no such animal otherwise.

I need to calculate sales tax on orders destined for many states and
districts.

You can contact me off list if you wish.

Thanks

Paul Jordan

Sorry I do not, but I hope that does not come to pass as a general
rule - it is the worst case scenario for a web store... collecting
tax down to the city, or zip code level.... reporting to individual
states by city or zone will be a nightmare.

ugh.....

Good Luck,
Steve

I do this for sales within my state using a csv zip-based tax rate file.
It is quite simple and works well. The details can be found in the list
archives.

Thanks

I was actually just fishing for recommendations on the source of data files.
There are a few out there that provide the data with monthly updates. The
issue is most of the sites seem cheesy and it makes me doubt if the files
are really being updated as well as another vendors.

I got mine from the state's official website, but for now at least I
need only worry about taxing sales within my own state.

I'm not doing it any more but the easiest way I handled it was the tax
tables I purchased from:

http://thestc.com/

where I can tax at the zipcode level for those states where I had
nexus. They were the cheapest I could find and yet provided monthly
updates..
