dirmngr repository?

dirmngr repository?

Hello all,

I was tracking down an issue with dirmngr today (underlinking: it uses
functions from liblber but it doesn't link to it directly by default),
and I noticed that there is no git repository for it.

Is this intended or just there hasn't been work on dirmngr recently?

As you know, these functions are sometimes found in libldap and
sometimes in liblber and iirc in some other as well. GnuPG uses quite
some configure code to test for this. I am not sure about dirmngr.

That's right. Dirmngr has been merged with GnuPG. The GnuPG master has
a Dirmngr directory which has the most up to date code. We will only
do security updates for the old Dirmngr.

Does this mean that the dirmngr package found at [0] is obsolete or
superceded by the material in git, or by the source found in 2.1.0beta3?

Should the source package download link be marked as deprecated? or
will that deprecation wait until 2.1.0 is released?

I'm trying to sort out what debian should be doing with packaging these
parts, so i want to make sure i understand the upstream plans for them.

No, [0] is the current stable version.

More likely until 2.2 has been released. I expect that a migration to
2.1 will take quite some time on Unix platforms. On Windows we plan to
integrated into 2.1 into Gpg4win this year.

Get the permissions for Dirmngr right; last time I checked it was still
run as root.

gnupg recently by me:

I am not sure if there is going to be another release of the stand alone
dirmngr.

If Debian needs this we should consider a new release. Unless it would
be sufficient to have a Debian only patch.

For those who care, this was resolved today in debian unstable. Thanks
for the suggestion, Werner. If you have any other concerns about debian
packaging for any of these tools, please don't hesitate to raise them.
