iBook G4 mini-dvi to vga problems

Hi,

I am runnig Gentoo 2004.3 (kernel 2.6.11-rc5) on my iBook G4.

One issue I still have is the mini-dvi out. It does work, if I use
the mini-dvi->vga adapter that shipped with the iBook in
conjunction with a standard (?) vga cable (pin 5 is missing). It
does not work if I use another vga cable (pin 9 is missing). This
is annoying since I have a 10m cable where pin 9 is missing
connected to my beamer which does work only if i fire up OSX :-(

Any hints where the "mode" of the dvi out could be tuned to use
this cable?

Ok, another issue with this mini dvi out is that neither opengl
nor xv work properly if an external display is connected. xshm
is correctly cloned on both displays, but it is too slow when it
comes to scaling to watch movies in fullscreen. This is a minor
annoyance and does not matter if I cannot use the cable anyway :-(

Thanks.
