X not working on iBook G4

Hi everyone!

I just installed Gentoo 2004.3 from the minimal cd, doing a stage 1 install.
I got the thing running (an iBook G4 14" 1.2ghz), and I emerged gnome.

My problem is that when I try to start X via startx, gdm, or xdm, the hard
drive grinds for a second or two like it's working, but I get pushed to a
black screen. Once there, I can't do anything, I cant switch to any
terminal or kill the X server.

A few problems I had during the install:
I accidentally put in the CFLAGS line in the make.conf "-[zero]2" instead of
"-[letter O]2". It appeared to build stuff for gnome about half-way
through, then I fixed it.

Also, the building of mozilla stopped "emerge gnome", but "emerge
gnome-light" said I had all of the packages for it.

I'm still kind of a newbie, so any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks,
Andy

try disabling DRI on x config file.
