klibc / splash for arm

Hi folks,

I was hoping that a few of you might be willing to test out a few
patches I put into bugzilla a few minutes ago.

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=284957

They're for klibc, which was previously keywordless for arm.

Klibc was a blocker for splash utils / bootsplash and I wanted to make
Gentoo 'prettier' on boot for the latest project I have before I
submit it for review to the customer.

I'll let you know how the splash functionality works. Spock said that
it should work fine for generic framebuffers, so hopefully that's the
case.

Cheers,

Chris

if i have some time this week, i'd love to. will this apply generically
to embedded/arm, as in, the openmoko fone?

Oh yes... and it should also work for the LinWizard framebuffer.

Indeed, we applied the fbcondecor kernel patch and built the splashutils
a while ago. We then stopped using it because it didn't work with
console rotation.

I'll try to test it in the weekend.

Sorry I don't have time to look at this now. But we have had splash
screens via fbdev/splashutils working for over a year on the wizard
device.

Angelo mentioned that too - I wish I would have known that ahead of
time, I just spent the last couple of hours working on it :P

Yes, I'm pretty sure the slide switch is attached to a GPIO.

Anyway, we are currently trying to move our codebase into 2.6.30, so I'd
say the rotation switch is very low priority :P

Yes, we don't support it in linwizard yet. I'm thinking in gpio-buttons
and a userspace script??

What didn't work was doing a
echo 1 > /sys/class/fbcon/something/rotate
The console could rotate but fbcondecor seemed to be unaware of new
framebuffer size and rendered the decorations all fscked up.
