Kernel 2.6 on Alpha XL 366 (xlt)
|
|
Hi everyone, I haven't been following the list as much lately (finishing my bachelor's degree soon), but I was able to compile the 2.6.12-rc2 kernel (vanilla-sources). It runs fine (as far as I can tell). And the best thing is that I compiled it with the "Alcor/XLT" system type (not generic like I had to do with 2.4.28! There's a new option just under System Type to tell the kernel that I have an ev56 CPU, maybe that's what made the difference... One thing that's weird is that emerge put the kernel in /usr/src/linux-2.6.11-rc2 (not 2.6.12-rc2 as it should have). I'm sure it's 2.6.12-rc2 because of a) uname -a says so, b) the dir it created in /lin/modules is 2.6.12-rc2, c) at the logon screen it also says 2.6.12-rc2. So is there any danger in moving it to /usr/src/linux-2.6.12-rc2? Will emerge find it again if I ever want to unmerge it? (I'm, guessing no, but is that so bad?) Thanks in advance, J-S -- ___________________________________________ Jean-Sébastien Guay jean_seb [at] videotron http://whitestar02.webhop.org/ -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
