lookup syntax reference

I'm trying to write a authentication script for server_condition... is
there are reference for the lookup verbs and syntax. the documentation for
exim is not very extensive. All I have is examples to work with and I am
having a very hard time debugging.

You're kidding, right?

Exim's documentation is not hard to find, and it's extensive.

You're looking for the one called "The Exim 4 specification", by the way.

I can't think of an open source project with more extensive
documentation than Exim.

What have you tried, and how has it failed?

I agree the exim doc is extensive. I meant the syntax for lookups
wasn't or at least I can't find it. Actually I just found it under
string expansions. Sorry for making judgments so quickly I was in a bad
mood. Thanks for the responses. Next time I'll be more thoughtful in
what I post.

I think a fair criticism of the Exim docs is that they're not
immediately accessible for a new user who just wants to find out how
to do something simple - that's the problem you came across. There's a
lot of unfamiliar terminology which is confusing until you get to
grips with it - and it's hard to Google for something when you don't
know what Exim calls it.

The docs work best if you take them away and invest the time to read
them all the way through.

So don't feel too bad :-)

In my experience, I spend more time in Chapter 11 (String Expansions)
and followed closely by Chapter 40 (ACL's) than anywhere else. To me
the separation of those chapters, more physically than logically, is
one of the biggest hindrances to comprehension of how to make exim do
what you want. If they were physically closer together, maybe it
would make more sense. But that's just my flawed interpretation.

Don't forget Hazel's book from UIT Cambridge.
