Sharp photo copier smtp problems

I am working with multiple Sharp vendors on fixing the problem. I
assume the problem lays between exim's expectations protocol addherance
and Sharp's poor adaptation of smtp on their network copiers.
I have multiple copiers and %80 success with sending scanned documents.
Errors present in the log thusly
2008-05-15 11:32:17 SMTP protocol synchronization error (input sent
without waiting for greeting): rejected connection from
H=[10.100.206.40] input="EHLO MailroomCopier\r\n": 1 Time(s)
The copier does not queue and re-try. Can I attack this with an ACL
that ignores protocol errors based on host IP?
