Swiss authorities are studying four possible ways of meeting commitments
under the Kyoto Protocol, after deciding that voluntary measures will not
be sufficient to achieve the required reductions in CO2 emissions.
The four variations being considered by the Agency for the Environment,
the Federal Office of Energy and various interested parties are: A pure
CO2 tax of SFr0.30/litre (Eur0.19/l); A "centime for the climate" as
proposed by the oil importers association Erdol-Vereinigung and the Swiss
Business Federation; A "centime for the climate" combined with a CO2 tax
of SFr0.20/litre (Eur0.13/l), Or a "centime for the climate" combined with
a CO2 tax of SFr0.10/litre (Eur0.06/l).
