create DRBD device on filesystem which has data already?

Hello

I wonder is it possible to create a DRBD device without erasing the
existing data which is on the disk already?
i've tried to make it work, however DRBD said the metadata is corrupted
or something so asked me to recreate the filesystem for DRBD device.

cheers

David
