open source ha san

Dear All,

I have written a article with complete how to which describes following
things :

Making of open source HA SAN :

An article which describes and making of HA SAN with AoE, heartbeat and
DRBD. I mean it contains a complete how to of integration of DRBD, heartbeat
and AoE targets and initiators.

I want to keep it on the DRBD website. Can anybody help me to review it and
putting it on DRBD site.

Thanks and Best regards,
Krishna

Re: open source ha san [In reply to]

Dear Lars,

Please find my how to of HA SAN. I am attaching the how to & patches and
the purpose is as follows:

1) The patch fixes a bug of AoE driver [. if on client side the target is
dead, even it shows the files in mounted directory ]. If you dont apply this
patch then you won't have this feature in AoE driver.

2) How to : My how to explains the integration of AoE + DRBD + Heartbeat.
There are three nodes, one node is client & two nodes are servers. The
client uses AoE service (exported block device) from the primary node and if
the primary node fails, AoE service will be started on secondary node. The
client won't feel any disturbance in case of failover.

Lars,

I have two seperate document regarding all available AoE targets ( their how
to) , description, integration (with DRBD & Heartbeat) and their complete
design. If you would like to keep those documents also on DRBD site after
your review, then please let me know.

Thanks & Best Regards,
Krishna

Hi Krishna,

It is not only about the design, it is more about the content of your
papers. There are a number of errors in the "ha_san_raid_lvm_aoe.pdf"
document:

*) Never put meta data on a loop device. It might deadlock under
memory pressure.
*) No need to create the file system on top of DRBD twice. Once
on each node!!
*) I got the impression you advise to mount an ext3 fs on the
secondary (ro). This has a severe cache coherency issue, and
should not be advised to anyone.

The kernel patch simply drops all caches on the initiator side,
which is rude in a way.

Sorry, but I do not want to have this on .drbd.org as it is.

Dear Philip,

Thanks a lot for reviewing and telling me about the errors. I will try to
modify according to your suggestion and let you know after this.

Krishna
