Do I need calendar or home for invitations?

Hallo.
I have asked this question some weeks ago, but got no answer, so I ask
this in a similar way and I hope, that someone can give me an answer.
Do I need to subscribe (in my Calendar-Client) the collections
.../<user>/calendar/ or .../<user>/home/ to get invitations or is it
possible to get invitations without them?
