Question about Virus Database

Hi, I have idea to use Clam virus database. Idea is write scan module,
that reads ClamAV database and uses its virus signatures to scan
files. Reason: I write real time file scanner, and ClamAv (win32
version) are to slow (really to slow for real time file scanner), so I
decide to write my own scan module. But for that I need possibility to
read and understand ClamAV virus signatures database.
Or maybe anyone knows other GPL virus database with documented API?
Idea cames from my University. I writing Master Work from IT security.
